Just Cleat It
Bill was apparently reliving his boat-owning days when he decided to turn this quilt into the shape of a boat cleat. The quilt, itself, was the result of many evenings Barb spent hand-stitching an array of squares. It is accented with copper-colored wood and the result would be a cheerful, colorful addition to any room. Size: 24 inches high and 11 inches wide. It protrudes about 5 inches from the wall at center.

Nor'easter in the ForecastWhat is more magnificent to watch than a Lake Superior storm? Well, it is if you’re standing on the shore. On a boat out on the water? Not so much! In this quilt, Lake Superior is constructed from fabric collage and is mounted on a piece of rough-sawn lumber. That big knot in the upper right corner? We think it looks like an approaching storm.
Size: ~ 23" wide and 11" high. Contact us for purchase information. |

Autumn FancyThe printed fabric in this piece reminded thread of beautiful leaves in Autumn which resulted in a very lively quilt. Timber used leopard wood to give it form and a whimsical touch in the center. It’s sure to brighten any wall in any season. Size: ~28" x 20" oval.

Sine Waves IIThis was another sine wave shape, similar to one we did in the past, but done in a smaller size. It incorporates a variety of bright and cheery colors and is machine quilted in variegated thread. It has been redesigned for extra stability by the addition of aluminum rods inserted in the wooden slats. The rods extend on top and bottom for a sleek and modern look. Size: 15 inches by 15 inches.

Zig ZagThe quilt was constructed in a chevron pattern using a variety of blue and white prints, accented in rust. Timber gave it a more interesting shape and added wood strips, crafted from cherry, and stainless steel upholstery tacks. The result is a crisp and elegant piece ready to decorate any wall. Size: 30 inches by 17 inches.

Sine WavesOK, let’s be honest: Thread is not entirely sure what a sine wave is, but Timber is positive that he designed the form to replicate them so we’ll go with that name. At any rate, it’s a very contemporary look. There’s nothing traditional about this quilt but it meets the quilt qualifier: Layered and stitched. Size: 24 inches by 24 inches.

Rusty FirepitThe fabric for this piece began with the rust dying process applied to a REALLY rusty fire pit in our yard. It turned out interesting enough to inspire a quilt. The shape curves away from the wall in the same circumference of the actual fire pit. A friend noted that it looks like a lampshade, so for fun we added some LED lights that can be turned on to add a soft down glow. The remote that operates the lights will be included with the sale. Who knew rust could be so much fun! The size is roughly 21 inches tall and 24 inches wide, protruding 10 inches from the wall at center.

Plaid Moon RisingThread pieced this background in violet, red, orange and yellow with touches of blue to resemble plaid. Timber put a curve in the mounting so the moon, which is hand-quilted plaid, would rise toward the sky (or at least the ceiling). Size: 28 “ x 23”. MMXX Uicibusque recedit (2020 Sundial)2020 has been a topsy-turvy year for many of us. What day is it? What time is it? Losing much of our normal frame of reference, we were never sure! So we set out to make a sundial that is as chaotic as this year has become. Approximate diameter is 10 inches, so it would look great on an end table or coffee table.

Cylindrical QuiltThread was experimenting with some raw edge applique in a variety of black and white fabrics. Timber formed it into a cylinder and added a cherry wood bottom. Shown here, it makes a great container for fresh-cut or dried flowers. Dimensions: 5 inches in diameter, 14 inches high.

Quilt AfloatThis could be the start of a series. Inspired by the first fabric in a bundle of the month club from Cherrywood Fabric, Timber did an amazing job of making it “float” at different elevations. Once more, a quilt art/engineering success! Look for it at the Big Water Fiber Art Show and Sale September 17-18, 2021 at the Bayfield, WI Pavilion. Approximately 17 inches tall by 14 inches wide.

Kidney BeanGetting on a roll, Timber wanted “something curved”. The quilt maker responded with this small bean-shaped (sort of) piece in dark red-violet tones, which was then machine quilted. The frame alternates sections of cherry and locally-sourced pine, nicely finished. 16” x14” (approximate).

Outside the BoxShortly after embarking on a new vision of framed quilts, Thread spent a wonderful week at the Madeline Island School of the Arts. The instructions from Timber were to “make something with irregular angles”. The result was this multi-colored improvisational piece with gray accents. The frame, painted bright silver, is a geometric marvel of angles and is definitely outside the traditional box. Size: 32” x 18” (Approximate).

Wee WavyThe third wavy edition was suggested by Timber who thought a small version might make a good centerpiece on a table. In traditional tones of cranberry, aqua and a medley of beige, this piece has tiny irregular stripes for interest and is quilted with vines along the top. It could be used table top or hung vertically or horizontally. Size: 16” x 10”.

Fly FreeThis is a free-shaped quilt suspended to float in the frame with free-flying (and free shaped) quilt blocks, looking almost like a flock of brightly colored birds heading off to a new season in a different place. Have you ever wondered how they know where they’re going? Do you know where YOU’RE going? The background is gray with a textured plaid quilted in. The blocks are hand-quilted into place. And the frame is beautifully crafted from solid natural oak to accent the piece. Approximate size: 24 inches x 24 inches.

Flower, DeconstructedThread has never been a fan of florals but was drawn to this all-over flowered print in mostly violet. The inset pieces are multi-colored abstract petals, accented by hand quilting. The leaves, floating through the center, are accented with free-motion machine quilting and rise slightly from the rest of the quilt. Timber mounted it on cherry with a lovely exposed edge and a cherry “leaf” on each of the seven corners. Size: Roughly 30 inch diameter.
